The case of Florance Cassez has been a great lesson for a good number of Mexicans. The events of last week that concluded in her release through the granting of a plain and simple protection for violations of due process of incarceration was perhaps the most talked about after-dinner topic. Probably in this exchange of views, some opinions questioned the role played by civil organizations. All media outlets collected diverse opinions regarding the case, from legal experts, politicians and journalists to members of civil society organizations that work on security, against kidnapping and in favor of human rights. In particular, I was struck by the vision of journalist Rafael Cardona who has been questioning for at least three weeks the role that “NGOs” play because he identifies many Mexicans with his arguments and makes us question: What are the famous NGOs for? ? Precisely the role played in Mexico and around the world by the so-called NGOs, in this space we prefer to refer to ourselves better as civil society organizations (CSOs), consists of working on various tasks of public interest such as, for example, monitoring public policies, performance of legislators and politicians, social audit of corporate responsibility actions, human rights, animal rights, work for inclusion and against discrimination. They want all Mexicans, without distinction of creed, race, social position, political beliefs and worldview, to have a homeland. In the various opinion programs in which Don Rafael Cardona participates, such as the that always want to be 'ges' (government) at the end of the day, what I call the Triangle of the Bermudas of the good victims who are: Mrs. Wallace, Mr. Martí and Mrs. Morera.
“Those three people pushed a government that Phone Number List required at least declarative allies in its issue of victims and in its issue of war and everything else, they pushed it to breach an international treaty that would have resulted in this problem and would not have achieved, paradoxically , that the well-groomed and well-behaved defenders of the victims that the Bermuda Triangle converted the possibility of transferring a sentenced woman with prisoner status to another prison and what was going to be from prison to prison ended up being from prison to full freedom, why? Because we were not able to get the government to hold two signed documents. One sanctioned by the Senate of the Republic, which is the Strasbourg convention, and the other, a personal letter from Felipe Calderón to Sarkozy in which he offered to review the matter under the terms of the Strasbourg treaty” (El Mañanero, January 25 of 2013). Don Rafael's vision regarding the ways in which different leaders of civil organizations have participated is very interesting and his vision is undoubtedly shared by a large number of Mexicans. But we should question whether NGOs really want to be a government or not. Whatever the answer, it will be necessary to specify the public utility of citizen organizations.
When we refine the qualifiers that Cardona gave to the OSC leaders (Martí, Wallace and Morera), we are left with an accurate comment from the journalist that does not point out the need for civil society, despite the many contradictions and different emphases, to work in a more coordinated manner, without lose the floor of community responsibility that they must observe and listen to those who have opposing arguments. CSOs have to collaborate to build and face the challenge of substantially improving their understanding of public administration. Cardona pointed out that the discrepancies, differences (and lack of coordination of the organizations, this is what I say) caused Florance Cassez to already be enjoying freedom, proclaiming her supposed innocence and becoming a "socialite", who deserves to be received by her government with the highest honors. Don Rafael pointed out that instead of the Mexican government allowing the French woman to finish her sentence in France, despite the risk of seeing her sentence reduced; The alleged alliances with the work of the CSOs opened the door for the legal maneuver of his lawyers and they found the nooks and crannies for his release. Florance was freed due to the lack of due process, but she was not exonerated from her responsibility and participation in the actions for which she was detained.
